Shew! That’s what’s on the shelf for now! As always, classes ebb and flow so we’ll let you know when classes are added!
On the personal side, as many of you know, I lost my Dad a couple years ago in November and have been thinking about him a lot lately. I feel inspired to share what happened last year on the one year anniversary of his transition…
Mike (Dad) joined the military at 18 and when he got out a few years later he went to school for mechanics, specializing in Porsche’s. He worked on them most of his life, earning wages to help raise 5 girls. He always came home in shades of blue, the color of his work uniforms, which matched his blue eyes and was his favorite color. He had a love affair with airplanes too, he was president of a model airplane club when I was a kid. I remember him making them out of balsa wood, fitting them with little engines and going out to fly them. His shelves held about 20 books, and about half of them were on aircraft.
So on November 3, 2024 I am talking on the phone to a friend while quickly walking from one gate to another in the Atlanta airport on a work trip, when I suddenly stop dead. I tell my friend I’ll have to call her back later and then stand in stunned silence, because on display in the middle of the airport is a deep blue, sporty little Porsche. Now I don't pay attention to cars, couldn't care less about them most of the time, but this was set up in such a way that I couldn't miss it, even as distracted as I was. Hi Dad. I’m guessing other travelers were a bit surprised at seeing a strange woman crying over a blue Porsche in the middle of the airport.
Walking through the rest of the airport I saw on display a dozen or more model aircraft of early attempts at flight. Similar to what Dad and I might have gone to see together when I was a kid. I slowed down, took pictures and gave thanks, for my father and the message he sent me one year after he left.
I hope in this season of thanks and slowing down, you also get to feel the love all around you.
Blessings, and reach out anytime…
Jessie
